Avoiding nature loss and carbon emissions across three continents
The Global Forests Collection protects over 880K acres of land and provides cleaner cookstoves across three continents, including Africa, Asia and South America. The collection includes protection of important carbon sinks such as the peatlands in Indonesia, incredible dryland forest in East Africa, and provides cleaner cookstoves to families in South America. The projects also protect a huge variety of ecological habitats including endangered orangutans, clouded leopards, elephantsm and innumerable birds!
The Global Forests Collection protects over 880,000 acres of land across three continents, including Africa, Asia and South America. The collection includes the Katingan Peatlands project in Indonesia, which protects 157,000 hectares of land (it's the largest carbon project in the world!) that is also home to hundreds of people and endangered animals and is an ongoing source of jobs for women in the surrounding communities. The Kasigau Corridor in Kenya which protects over 200,000 hectres of forest in Kenya - protecting elephants and employing local communities with long-term job opportunities. And Honduars Cookstoves project which brings a new type of stove to communities that are cleaner, more efficient and safer; the stoves themselves are estimated to eliminate 3 tonnes of carbon per stove per year, and so far, the project has installed over 210,000 stoves impacting the lives of over 874,000 people.
